.NET 2.0 introduces a new class in the System.Web.UI.Design namespace: WebFormsRootDesigner (documentation). Unfortunately, the class only seems to be a stub that, most important, doesn't implement the GetView method (documentation).

I don't remember exactly where I've read this, but it seems that (at least in VStudio 2003) that the ASP.NET designer doesn't use the classical designer infrastructure, (as windows forms one does). It is therefore understandable for this class not to implement GetView even if I admit the nclass name is confusing

PS: I don't understand why Microsoft didn't use the same infrastructure for all its designers...

did you ever find an implementation of this, i am looking to create a simple designer for asp.net as well.

Microsoft used the same infraestructure, but the implementation is inside the assemblies of visual studio 2005.
